Rubelli lion at the Biennale

Sculpture made from paper and Rubelli fabrics at the Venice Biennale

The lion, already the emblem of Rubelli, is also a highly original paper and fabric sculpture that Swatch commissioned from artist Marcelot for the Venice Art Biennale 2022.

Marcelot, pseudonym of the artist Marcelo Tomaz Galvão de Castro, born in 1965 in Brazil and now living in Switzerland, has created his winged lion with paper from Venetian newspapers and magazines, and using various Rubelli fabrics for the mane, "Pavone" damask for the wings and "Lettere" damask in the red version for the book cover.

The work, entitled "Leone di Venezia" or “Lion of Venice”, is to be exhibited at the Arsenale in the Sala D'Armi, inside the Swatch space, for the duration of the Biennale, that is until 27 November.
