Rubelli on stage at the Verona Arena for the Don Giovanni

Damask, lampas and taffeta for Don Giovanni costumes

Rubelli, the historic Venice company founded in 1858 and famous for creating high-end furnishing fabrics, is to play its part in the 90th Opera Festival at the Verona Arena.

An undeniable trendsetter in the world of textile design, Rubelli, now in its fifth generation, has always shown itself to be focused on and active in the arts. This is in fact demonstrated by the extensive support given to theatres and other historic buildings over the years, including supplies of the precious fabrics which decorate sumptuous palazzi and famous museums throughout Europe.

This year once again Rubelli has decided to work alongside the world of the arts, theatre in particular.
On 22 June next, in the scenic setting of the Verona Arena, the company’s creations are to go on stage in the opera which is to open the new opera season in Verona – Mozart’s Don Giovanni. An opera considered by critics to be one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of opera and Western culture, a reflection of Mozart’s genius and the musical splendour of the eighteenth century. Don Giovanni is to lead off in this important Festival, the theme for which is based on the many interpretations of love.

The luxurious fabrics supplied by Rubelli for making the costumes for the cast and transformed into sumptuous period clothing by Maurizio Millenotti are to be the lead players on stage, alongside the famous characters from the opera directed by the maestro Franco Zeffirelli.
Damask, silk and precious lampas are to be displayed on stage: Don Giovanni, the incorrigible seducer, is to wear delicate silk satin and jacquard fabrics with silver shading. Donna Elvira, the noblewoman abandoned by Don Giovanni, will be resplendent in iridescent amethyst colour taffeta which plays with the effects of the reflected light. Don Ottavio is instead to be dressed in the impressive pure silk damask in unconventional colours, including San Marco, the iconic evergreen of Rubelli creations. All luxury fabrics for inspiring the audience to imagine an atmosphere of times gone by.

With this latest important sponsorship Rubelli is once again confirmed as an outstanding player on the national and international arts scene.
